As Executive Director, Gareth McFeely leads efforts to enhance the quality of BU’s Study Abroad programs, build stronger bridges between on-campus academic experiences and overseas engagements, and foster greater connections among faculty, staff, and students within all BU schools and colleges and with our partner institutions. He works in collaboration with the entire Global Programs team.

Gareth has worked at BU since 2003, and prior to joining Study Abroad he spent eight years working in a variety of roles in the CAS Dean’s Office.

A native of Ireland, he completed his undergraduate degree in French and English at Trinity College Dublin and his M.Phil. in International Relations at the University of Cambridge in England. He spent five years working for the Irish Foreign Service, including postings in Berlin, Stockholm, and New York before joining BU. He obtained his Ph.D. in African History from BU, an academic journey that started in his teens when he spent two years living in Sudan.
