he/him
Mazen Sakr is a lecturer of Architectural Design. His experience is rooted in both academia and practice. His academic pursuits have involved exploration of form-making techniques through studies in descriptive geometry, local historic precedents and contemporary construction techniques. His essay “Consequential Forms; The Blur Moments Between Sculpture and Architecture” studied the evolution of the discipline of sculpture after the Abstract Expressionism Movement through the 1970s and whether architecture dares to meet sculpture halfway.
Mazen practices as a Senior Associate at Anmahian Winton Architects in Cambridge. His most recently completed projects at AW include the award-winning Gemma Astronomical Observatory and “Left of Passage – Right of Passage” an installation in Amman, Jordan exploring the idea of movement through the lens of the complex historical and geological site of Wadi Rum. Other projects at AW include the renovation of Knafel Center at Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Studies, Harvard University; Capital Vista Tower in Ankara, Turkey; a new urban masterplan for Winchester, MA; and the award-winning Community Rowing Boathouse in Allston, MA. At AW Mazen’s efforts are advancing the firm’s work in socially innovative projects as well as product development and research with emphasis on furniture, lighting and sound design.
