[Return to Nexus Newsletter]
The Hariri Institute for Computing recently welcomed three new staff members, after having spent several months to restructure the administrative arm of the Institute in support of the Hariri community. This past spring, three new employees joined the team: Katherine Gerrety as Events & Program Manager, Emily Johnson as Finance & Operations Manager and Natalie Counts McKenna as Associate Director for Administration & Finance. Additionally, San Tran transitioned from her role as a Project Analyst to Manager for Research Development & Consulting for SAIL.
Prior to joining BU, Katherine (Events & Program Manager) had been the Event Marketing Manager at Grand Circle Corporation for nearly five years. During her time at Grand Circle she travelled to thirteen countries, planning and executing a variety of events and projects. She graduated from Johnson & Wales University with a degree in Sports, Entertainment and Event Management, and her passion to work in higher education brought her to BU. Katherine started at the Institute on April 18th and is responsible for event and program management.
Emily (Finance & Operations Manager) has a long history with BU, having earned her BS in Journalism (COM ‘05) and MLA in Gastronomy (MET ’14). She began working at BU in 2011 as the central administrative contact for the Center for Remote Sensing and its director, Dr. Farouk El-Baz. Emily held a number of positions throughout Greater Boston – including editor of Spare Change News, chocolate maker, and floral technician – before rejoining the BU community in 2011. Emily transitioned to the Institute on April 18th and now manages a wide range of financial and administrative responsibilities, including day-to-day operations.
Natalie (Associate Director, Administration & Finance) had been working at MIT since 2013, where she most recently oversaw financial and administrative operations for a multi-departmental research center. She graduated from BU and earned a BA in environmental analysis and policy and MA in energy and environmental analysis (CAS ‘13). Natalie started at the Institute on April 11th and provides leadership for administrative and financial functions at the Insitute.
Before moving into her new role, San (Manager, Research Development & Consulting, SAIL) spent a year at the Institute as the Software & Application Innovation Lab’s (SAIL) Project Analyst, where she supported the lab’s research projects and launched SAIL’s internship program. In her new role, she’ll manage SAIL’s strategic planning and development efforts, provide technical consulting, and oversee software engineering relations and recruitment. In addition to general project management, she’ll continue to manage the operation and growth of the lab’s internship program.
