Remembering Tony Janetos

It is with both somber hearts and fond memories that we remember Tony Janetos and his time with the Hariri Institute of Computing. Tony was an active participant in several capacities at the Institute and will be remembered for his energy, insights, and dedication to the issues related to climate change.

Tony served as a panelist at the 2018 BU Data Science (BUDS) Day. His viewpoints during that event will be remembered as thought-provoking, and most of all, truthful. His panel covered the topics related to the unforeseen effects of a growing reliance on big data and algorithmic solutions to social challenges. He was once quoted, “I look at this as I’m not out to change anyone’s mind, but I’m just out to tell you the truth.” Recently, he was a sponsor who nominated Christophe Nolte, Assistant Professor, Earth & Environment, CAS and Hariri Institute Junior Faculty Fellow.

University Provost, Jean Morrison was quoted, “Someone so generous with both his time and himself—he was just a lovely human being. His impact will be felt for many, many years to come, and our hearts go out to his family and loved ones.” Tony is survived by his wife, his two children, Peter and Anna, as well as four brothers.
