School of Law Professor Danielle Citron Awarded with MacArthur Fellowship
Professor Danielle Citron has been given the honor of being named a 2019 MacArthur Fellow. A professor at Boston University’s School of Law, Professor Citron is 1 out of 26 people to be recognized as a MacArthur Fellow and has been awarded $625,000 to invest in their passions.
The MacArthur Foundation supports creative individuals, networks, and proactive institutions striving to tackle prominent issues of our world, such as climate change and over-incarceration. Their program recognizes individuals who have creative potential, originality, and exceptional dedication to their work.
Along with being a MacArthur Fellow and Professor of Law, Professor Citron is a member of the Hariri Institute for Computing Cyber Alliance. She has been addressing cyber-harassment by raising awareness of the impact on victims and proposing reformation of policy to combat extreme online abuse, such as hate crimes or revenge porn. In addition to authoring over 30 law review articles, Professor Citron is the author of Hate Crimes in Cyberspace and says a portion of her award will likely go towards the making of her second book, which is on sexual privacy.
