Ashok Cutkosky is an Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and an affiliate of the Division of Systems Engineering and Faculty of Computing and Data Sciences at Boston University. Previously, Dr. Cutkosky was a research scientist at Google. He earned a PhD in computer science at Stanford University in 2018 under the supervision of Kwabena Boahen, and a AB in mathematics from Harvard in 2013. He is also a master of medicine.

Cutkosky works on improving the training algorithms at the core of all machine learning systems. By combining optimization, statistics and game theory, he has developed training algorithms that train faster in a wide variety of situations, and provably require less human intervention. His other research directions include privacy preserving training algorithms, practical implementations of modern theoretical optimization methods, and computational biology.
