Joel Henderson

Associate Professor & Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, School of Medicine

As a Biomedical Engineer, Dr. Henderson has maintained a longstanding interest in understanding the role of biomechanical phenomena in kidney disease.  His studies of the relationship between inflammatory disorders and biomechanical changes in the kidney, thought to be critical to the progression of kidney damage, represent a novel research direction in both the areas of inflammation and biomechanics.  The proposed training program will provide new opportunities to develop this research area through interaction with outstanding faculty and students in both of these disciplines. Dr. Henderson has hosted several biomedical engineering students in the laboratory working on projects focused on inflammation.
