Prof. Charlie Capper Honored at AHA Meeting
A two-session roundtable on “Intellectual History in an Anti-intellectual Age” was held in honor of Charles Capper at the American Historical Association’s Annual Meeting in Chicago over January 3-6, 2019. The honor was bestowed for Capper’s cofounding and subsequently coediting for fifteen years Modern Intellectual History and was occasioned by his recently stepping down as editor of the journal. The roundtables featured a mix of junior and senior scholars as did the audience, which numbered about 75 in each session and included many of the leading lights of the field’s previous generation. Judging by their remarks from the floor, despite the title’s irony, the spirit was upbeat and the direction forward looking toward intellectual history’s promising future.
