Returning from Study Abroad

Qualifying for on-campus housing

Students qualify for on-campus housing if they had a valid Residence License Agreement for the academic year or semester immediately preceding their participation in Boston University study abroad or internship programs.  This also applies to students who have participated in study abroad or internship programs for consecutive semesters.

Ensuring on-campus housing on your return

Students use online housing applications to reserve on-campus housing. Instructions for accessing the Spring Only Housing Application will be e-mailed in November to students returning for the following spring semester, and in February students returning for the following academic year will receive information about the Continuing Student Housing Application.

Assignments

Students returning for the fall semester participate in Room Selection.

Students returning for the spring semester will be assigned based on space availability (vacancies that result from students who go away on study abroad or internship programs, graduate, or withdraw or take leaves of absence from the University) and the information provided in their housing reservations. Residence assignments are made over the Winter Break and will be available on the My Housing portal in January, just prior to the opening of residences for the spring semester.

Student account charges for students returning in the spring

In November and December, when students view their accounts on the MyBU Student Portal, their spring semester residence and dining plan charges will not appear. Students may see estimated residence and dining plan charges until their residence and dining plan assignments are made in early January.

Students should be sure to make payment for the spring semester charges currently on their accounts by the published deadline.  Because residence and dining plan rates vary, in early January, after final residence and dining plan assignments are made, students should review their accounts for possible updates to the estimated charges.
