Graduate Technology Services
Who doesn’t love free stuff? One of the many benefits of campus living is the no-charge, built-in services in our residences, from Ethernet to Wi-Fi to telephone lines. Below is an overview of some tech amenities that come with your unit.
Wireless Network
The University’s IS&T group maintains an extensive wireless network throughout the Charles River, Fenway, and Medical Campuses, and certain other remote campuses as well. We design and install all wireless infrastructure, ensuring members of the BU community secure and easy access to the network at data rates up to 200 Mbps.
Centralizing design, installation, management, and maintenance means the wireless network functions in a predictable and reliable manner, providing simplicity, consistency, transparency, and security for everyone, regardless of where they connect to our network.
On-campus graduate residences have either “eduroam” or “BU Wi-Fi Resident” through Xfinity as roaming services. You can find instructions on how to connect to “eduroam” here. You can find instructions on how to connect to “BU Wi-Fi Resident” here.
Ethernet/ResNet
In addition to our Wi-Fi network, all on-campus rooms are wired to give graduate students individual Ethernet connections to the campus network.
With dedicated, high-speed Ethernet ports available to every occupant in over 150 residences, ResNet at Boston University is among the most capable residential networks anywhere, offering graduate students broadband access to a vast array of computing, communications, and information resources on campus, throughout the US, and around the world.
Telephones
Graduate residents have the option to install individual telephone lines in their rooms. Telephone sets, however, are not provided.
Graduate students are responsible for arranging with Verizon (888-339-7306) for service and, if applicable, for the disconnection of their academic-year telephone service at the end of their term.
