Gender-Neutral Housing Summer Session

If you are at least 18 years old and living on campus for the summer, you are eligible for Gender-Neutral Housing. Eligible students are welcome to request to live with students of any gender and should be aware of the following guiding principles:

  • No student will be placed in a gender-neutral room, suite or apartment without their consent.
  • Students who request Gender-Neutral Housing and have mutual gender-neutral roommate requests will be placed in a mixed gender living situation. Additionally, gender-neutral roommate requests must fill all available bed spaces in a room or apartment in order to be considered.
  • Students do not have to express their reasons for wanting to live in gender-neutral housing.
  • The laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts guide assignments for transgender students. BU Housing will work with all transgender students individually on their room assignments.

We cannot always guarantee any specific requests for summer housing due to space availability concerns, but will do our best to fulfill them. If you have questions about Gender-Neutral Housing during the summer, please contact the Summer Housing Manager at housing@bu.edu or 617-353-3511.
