Fraud Alert for Massachusetts Unemployment Insurance
Be Alert for Fraud Targeting State Unemployment Insurance Programs
There has been an increase in fraud targeting state unemployment insurance programs, including here in Massachusetts, and we want to ensure that you are able to protect yourself if necessary. Across Boston University, we have received some reports of employees receiving letters via the U.S. Postal Service from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Assistance indicating that they filed a Pandemic Unemployment Assistance claim. If you receive this letter, it is possible that your Social Security number and other information may have been compromised.
Recommended Steps if you received a suspicious letter:
- Notify your local police department and file an official report
- Notify theĀ Unemployment Insurance Fraud Unit
