Health Plan Rates for Employees Working 75% or More of a Full-Time Schedule

Cost of the Health Plan

You and the University share the cost of your coverage under the Health Plan.

Currently, the University pays a portion of the coverage cost as determined by the University. Your share of the cost is the difference between the total cost of coverage and the amount that Boston University pays. The total cost of coverage is different for each option. Costs are subject to change at the beginning of each plan year. Also, the University may change the percentage of the cost that it will pay.

If you are enrolled in the health plan and your percentage of a full-time schedule drops below 75%, your share of the total cost will increase. Please contact Human Resources for further details.

How Health Plan Contributions Are Paid

You pay for your portion of the contributions for your Health Plan coverage with pre-tax dollars. This is because Boston University automatically reduces your pay by the amount of your payments—before federal income taxes, state income taxes, and Social Security taxes are taken out. Automatic before-tax premium payments are allowed under the provisions of Section 125 of the Internal Revenue Code, as explained in the Flexible Benefits Program.
