Changing Coverage or Stopping Coverage

Because you pay for your coverage with before-tax dollars, the provisions of Section 125 of the Internal Revenue Code also govern how and when you may make changes in your Health Plan coverage. Under the current provisions of Section 125, once each year during the annual open enrollment period you may:

  • Change the level of your coverage (that is, move from one of the four tiers to another), or
  • Cancel your coverage

The only other time you may make a change in your Health Plan coverage is if you have an an IRS-approved life or career event.
