Calculating Your Benefit Amount
Your Paid Family and Medical Leave benefit is calculated in two steps.
- The part of your average weekly wage that is less than or equal to 50% of the average weekly wage for Commonwealth workers will be covered at a rate of 80%
- If part of your average weekly wage is greater than 50% of the average weekly wage for Commonwealth workers, it will be covered at a rate of 50%, up to the maximum allowed benefit amount
The average weekly wage in Massachusetts for 2025 is $1,829.13. Fifty percent of $1829.13 is $914.56.
The maximum benefit is $1,170.64 per week in 2025.
The average weekly wage in Massachusetts is reevaluated each October. That new average is used to calculate benefit amounts, which will start on January 1 of the next year.
Benefits are payable after a waiting period of the first seven (7) calendar days of an approved leave under this Policy. Where the approved leave involves leave on an intermittent or reduced leave schedule, the wait period shall be seven consecutive calendar days, not the aggregate accumulation of seven days of leave. The initial seven-day waiting period for paid leave benefits will count against the total available period of leave in a benefit year.
