Managing Your Staff
As a manager, you are responsible for successfully leading your staff. Be sure to communicate clearly and effectively, and set expectations so your team can achieve its overall goals. Take the time to talk regularly with your staff, both collectively and individually.
Periodically, work-related issues will arise with members of your staff; it’s best to address and resolve these issues in a professional and timely manner.
Each college, school, and administrative unit has an assigned Human Resources Partner who can provide a wide range of manager services, including:
- Advice and coaching on performance and other on-the-job problems
- Clarification of Boston University policy
- Compliance with laws governing employment, such as FMLA and ADA
- Guidance in interpreting non-represented/non-exempt policies and collective bargaining agreements
For assistance with these and any other employee relations issues, please contact the HR Business Partner for your school/college/department.
