Returning your Employee from PFML

Return to Work Confirmation

Managers are responsible for notifying Human Resources when their employees return from a Paid Family and Medical Leave.  As soon as your employee has actually returned from leave, please email leaves@bu.edu and confirm the date the employee returned so we may ensure they promptly receive regular pay.

To assist managers in confirming actual return to work dates, automatic emails are sent to managers when their employee reaches the end of their approved Paid Family and Medical leave.  Weekly reminders will also continue to be sent until the employee has been returned from leave in SAP.

This return process ensures employees are returned from their leave only when they have actually returned to work.  This will avoid overpayments and enable the accuracy of employees’ pay records.

Return to Work Clearance

Employees who are out on a personal medical leave, with the exception of pregnancy related leaves, must be cleared to return to work by the BU Occupational Health Center.  Once your employee has been cleared to return to work, you will receive confirmation from the BU Occupational Health Center.  If your employee returns prior to you receiving confirmation of their clearance to return to work, please contact the BU Occupational Health Center.

If an employee is transitioning from a continuous personal medical leave to an intermittent or reduced schedule personal medical leave, the employee still must be cleared to return to work on a limited basis by the BU Occupational Health Center.

If you have any questions, please contact the Human Resources Service Center at leaves@bu.edu or 617-353-2380.
