Which majors/minors qualify me to appply?
Internships are open to undergraduates who are majoring or minoring in a CAS humanities department or one of the following CAS departments/programs in the social sciences: Anthropology, Archaeology, African American Studies, History, Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Studies.
How will applicants be evaluated?
Applicants will be evaluated on: quality of writing, academic record, reasons for interest in this opportunity, and the strength of letters of recommendation.
I am a freshmen. Can I still apply?
Yes. But note that application quality being equal, preference will be given to students who are further along in their degree program.
I am a senior graduating this year. Can I still apply?
Yes.
I am a senior graduating in the fall semester. Can I still apply?
Yes.
Who should I ask to write my letters of recommendation?
Solicit letters of recommendation from people who are able to address your skills in areas that are applicable to an internship in the humanities (writing, research, critical thinking, etc.).
My instructor is a graduate student. Can they still write me a letter of recommendation?
Yes, so long as they are the instructor of record (rather than a teaching assistant).
Does this program provide housing?
No, interns are expected to secure their own housing during the duration of their internship. Stipends are calculated to exceed the average cost of living for 8-12 weeks.
