Zachary Weaver

Graduate Student

Zachary Weaver is a second-year graduate student from central New York. He attended Colgate University before coming to Boston University. His primary research interest is in understanding the outbursts of blazars, a type of active galactic nuclei in which an ultra-relativistic jet of charged particles is pointing nearly along our line-of-sight. These jets accelerate particles to near-light speed, and generate light from radio waves to gamma rays. His current research projects include analyzing radio interferometry maps of blazars, monitoring the brightness of blazars over time using several ground- and space-based telescopes, and using machine learning and big data techniques to identify and characterize patterns in blazar outbursts across the electromagnetic spectrum.

Research Interests: Blazars, Extra-Galactic Astronomy, and Machine Learning
