IMAP Fall Workshop Shifting Scales: How investors balance financial, environmental, and social risks

  • Starts8:00 am on Friday, October 18, 2024
  • Ends1:00 pm on Friday, October 18, 2024

How do investors balance financial returns with environmental or social objectives?

Some investors are looking for purely financial returns, but most are willing to sacrifice some level of financial return in exchange for ensuring their investment is going into a company that, at the minimum, maintains a certain standard of employee welfare and environmental responsibility. Others seek even greater positive impact on environmental or social issues from the corporations that they invest in. How much financial return can or should be traded in order to achieve these multiple goals simultaneously? How can and do asset managers determine what is an appropriate trade-off within these multiple goals, recognizing that the answer to these questions is different for each investor?

This workshop will explore academic research on this question and facilitate a panel discussion to hear the viewpoints of investment industry leaders.
