Chloe Rowen is the Operations Assistant for the Boston University Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS). Currently an undergraduate student at Boston University in the College of Arts and Sciences, Rowen is pursuing a BA in Environmental Analysis and Policy with minors in both Environmental Remote Sensing & GIS and Urban Studies. Especially interested in utilizing data through different methods of modeling, she hopes to pursue opportunities using data analysis to further promote environmental justice.
During her time at Boston University, she has utilized her skills in various opportunities to promote climate justice and resilience. Her research includes leading a team to identify urban tree canopy coverage throughout neighborhoods and public spaces in the city of Boston to pinpoint vulnerable areas. She took advantage of an internship opportunity with Parley for the Oceans in Honolulu, Hawai’i, where she educated visitors on ocean plastic pollution and the recycling process, as well as led a project to bridge the gap between consumers and ocean education to further promote awareness on climate issues with an emphasis on local ocean conservation in the Hawaiian Islands.
At Boston University, she is interested in refining her GIS and other data analysis skills in hopes of pursuing opportunities to identify methods to promote environmental justice especially in urban areas. She is specifically interested in the interaction between humans and the environment, environmental urban planning, urban climate resilience and climate governance.
