Natalia Escobar-Pemberthy

Natalia Escobar-Pemberthy is the Clean Energy and Environment Legacy Transition (CELT) Initiative Program Manager at the Boston University Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS). She has over 10 years of experience working on global environmental governance and the implementation of multilateral environmental agreements. Her work focused on the extent to which national governments advance their international environmental commitments, and on how international organizations such as the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), other governments, and stakeholders can support that process.

Escobar-Pemberthy was Faculty at Universidad EAFIT in Medellín (Colombia) from 2009-2023 and served as Adjunct Faculty and Lecturer at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University from 2021 to 2023. Previously she served as Research Associate at the Center for Governance and Sustainability at the University of Massachusetts Boston where she supported the development of the Environmental Conventions Index (ECI) and the offering of the Online Course on the Implementation of MEAs, with the support of UNEP. She also worked for the public and the private sector in her home country, supporting stakeholder engagement with academia, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders, both at the national and state governments. She has a Ph.D. in Global Governance and Human Security from the University of Massachusetts Boston, with a focus on environmental governance.
