
Wendy Heiger-Bernays

Dr. Heiger-Bernays, affiliated faculty with the Boston University Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS), is Emerita Clinical Professor, Environmental Health. Dr. Heiger-Bernays’ research, teaching, and practice focus on methods to assess the toxicity of environmental hazards and health risks to susceptible populations exposed to legacy and emerging contaminants. Her focus is on the technical underpinnings of health risk assessments to environmental chemicals.
Her recent work in toxicology includes the assessment of chemicals with developmental effects derived from traditional methods compared with those derived from in vitro methods and research on the mechanisms by which individual and mixtures of endocrine active chemicals affect molecular pathways.
Dr. Heiger-Bernays serves on multiple federal, state, and local committees and boards aimed at protecting the public’s health by decreasing the use of and exposure to environmental chemicals.
