Partner Spotlight: BU Arts Initiative
The Initiative on Cities partners with several organizations across campus at Boston University, each of which offers unique and engaging opportunities and programming for students and faculty. This week, we’re featuring the BU Arts Initiative.
IOC: What issues is Arts Initiative currently tackling, and how can students get involved?
The BU Arts Initiative’s role is to ensure that all students are engaging with the arts at some point during their time at BU. Most of this engagement is done through interdisciplinary faculty involvement in the classroom and programming that is free and open to all BU students to attend. We invite students to sign up for our weekly newsletter to check out all the arts events happening on campus.
BU Arts Initiative: What upcoming events or programming are you most excited about?
We are excited for our Spring 2020 programming, including two events in April: a residency with theater artist Stephan Wolfort in partnership with CFA, School of Theatre and “From Arts to Placemaking: What Burning Man Can Teach Us About Great Cities” with the IOC.
How do you interact with the city of Boston and/or partner with us at the Initiative on Cities?
We work closely with the Mayor’s Office of Arts & Culture to not only help promote any of our events that are open to the public, but to also involve BU students in events that are happening in the city they might be interested in. We have partnered with the Initiative on Cities in the past to provide programming such as creative placemaking, and look forward to our program in April 2020. Additionally we’ve had partnerships with numerous arts and cultural organizations in and around the city of Boston.
Are there any other comments you want to share about your work?
We hope that BU students take any opportunity to get off campus by attending any of the four museums we have university memberships to, as well as pick-up a free Boston Symphony Orchestra College Card to get access to concerts throughout their season. Be sure to check out our BU Student Discounts website for more discounts!
