Join our team! Hiring a Communications Manager & Administrator

The BU Initiative on Cities seeks a full time Communications Manager & Administrator to serve in a critical communications and operations role on our team. The Communications Manager/Administrator manages events with researchers, elected officials and other government practitioners, and leads external and internal communications, including our weekly newsletter, website, social media, and annual report. She/He/They also coordinate our catalytic research seed grant fund, which is open to faculty and graduate students at BU, and support the Faculty Director and general IOC operation. This individual also has responsibility for managing our team of student staff, providing a supportive and professional work environment that enables their growth. The ideal candidate is team-oriented, a strong communicator, relentlessly detail oriented, confident working with individuals at various levels of seniority within higher education and government, and has a passion for urban issues.

Responsibilities

  • Communications: Oversee IOC website, including regular event posts, faculty publications and other current content, author weekly newsletter to 3,000+ subscribers, manage our social media and lead development of our annual report.
  • Manage events, including frequent small scale seminars and periodic large conferences. Responsibilities include partner coordination, event promotion, speaker coordination, travel booking, receipts and reimbursements, purchase orders and onsite logistics.
  • Coordinate IOC’s urban research seed grant fund, which is open to BU faculty and graduate students, including marketing, fielding questions, managing faculty review committee, compiling feedback, disbursing award funding, and measuring impact.
  • Manage our team of 4-5 part-time student staff hired as Communications Assistants and Office Assistants to work during the academic year.
  • Support additional IOC activities, including assisting the IOC Faculty Director with research for presentations and talks, travel booking, and scheduling as needed.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications And Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 3-5 years of professional work experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with WordPress.
  • Marketing, social media, and events experience preferred.
  • Experience with InDesign or other design software preferred.
  • Passionate about cities and urban challenges.
