Goldfarb-Jilly Jillian Goldfarb

Research Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering

Jillian Goldfarb’s research tackles issues surrounding energy generation and its impact on the environment, and is funded by the National Science Foundation and by the Proctor & Gamble Corporate Sustainability Program. These interest areas include: (1) mitigating the environmental impacts of energy-derived pollutants via improved understanding of contaminant behavior, (2) developing new materials to reduce waste and remediate or retard the spread of contaminants, and (3) investigating economically viable and industrially scalable alternative energy sources.

Goldfarb is a recipient of an American Chemical Society (ACS) Leadership Development Award and an NIEHS Superfund Research Program Fellowship. She is an Executive Board member of the ACS Division of Environmental Chemistry and is President of the New England Institute of Chemists.

With a grant from the Initiative, Goldfarb is seeking solutions to reducing the energy required to manage municipal solid waste (MSW) and leachate landfills and develop new ways and materials to reduce waste and slow the spread of contaminants.
