Ask Anonymously

About

Ask Anonymously is a way for IS&T staff to ask questions, or provide suggestions, for IS&T leadership.

The questions come in to the Communication & Documentation team without any identifying information. We then obtain a response from IS&T leadership and publish it in the next issue of the IS&T Staff Newsletter.

How it's Anonymous

This form does not collect any login credentials or user agent information, so it would require both a) knowledge of when the question was submitted and b) access to the logs, to get an accurate IP address of the submitter. Even then, the POST data (including the text of the question itself) is not saved to logs. Regardless of the possibility of associating a question with an IP address, and then an individual's computer from there, the Communication & Documentation team makes no effort to track down a submitter; and we would certainly need the help of other IS&T staff if we did. We like this anonymous forum as much as you do and want people to trust it.

That said, if you want to be even more certain that it's truly anonymous, there are a couple of options to further anonymize your submissions:

  • Submit the question from home. While your IP address could, theoretically, be tracked to your Internet Service Provider, associating that with an IS&T staff member would be very difficult.
  • Use an anonymous web browser (such as Tor) or a proxy service that will mask the submission IP address.
