David  Marín

Pardee/CAS’28 International Relations & Economics

Hello everyone! My name is David Marín, I am a first-generation Colombian-American who grew up in beautiful and sunny Miami, Florida. I am a current first-year (class of 2028) studying International Relations and Economics in the College of Arts & Sciences and the Pardee School of Global Studies. I am also a proud first-generation college student! In my free time, I love to travel, explore, watch shows, and collect pins (I have over 200 of them in my dorm!)

Moving so far from home for college was quite scary and there were many fears associated with this move but ultimately, I can attest to the fact that everything will be okay! In only my first two semesters at BU, I have found communities that I am certain will have a lifelong impact on my career and social life, which I believe is truly what college is all about.

On campus, I have become involved with a variety of different student groups; I am the Freshman Representative and Co-Event Coordinator for Alianza Latina (BU’s Latino Student Union), the Director of Finance for the collegiate Boston Area Model United Nations Conference, ran under the BU International Affairs Association (BUIAA), as well as a member on the competitive travel team for MUN at BU and a Chair for the high school Boston University Model United Nations Conference which are both also subsects of BUIAA. I also work on campus! I currently work as a Facilities Supervisor and Pro Shop Attendant at the Boston University Fitness and Recreation Center and I am an Admissions Ambassador (tour guide) as well as a member of the Admissions Student Diversity Board (ASDB) at the Boston University Admissions Office.

KHC has also been one of the most pivotal parts of my experience here at BU! I have made some of my closest friends at Kilachand Hall and on Bay State Road and have had some of my coolest experiences in my KHC Seminars and Studios. Whether it was making a PVC Clarinet with a vinyl glove as a membrane in KHC EK104 or researching Florida’s recent political changes in Studio 2, I am quite grateful and excited for the experiences KHC has had to offer.

Again, I totally understand that coming into college is a very daunting experience and it definitely takes a while to get settled in, especially as a first-gen student. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns or even if you just need someone to talk to! I would be happy to help you with anything you may need and with your process of assimilating into BU and KHC :)
