Ely Hochfelder

CAS ‘27   International Relations, Sociocultural Anthropology

Hello everyone! My name is Ely Hochfelder (they/them) and I am studying International Relations with concentrations in Latin American Cultural Anthropology and Regional Politics in the Class of 2027. I grew up in Western Massachusetts and am incredibly proud to be a life-long Bay Stater! I went to a small public school, so coming to a large university like BU was the perfect change after graduating high school. In my free time, I love to learn new languages (I’m a polyglot!), study maps and geography, cook, write comedy, and thrift. I’m passionate about social justice, LGBTQ and immigrant activism, and finding the best bowl of noodle soup in Boston.

On campus, I am the treasurer of BU’s stand-up comedy club and the treasurer of BU Politica, a global affairs publication. For the fall semester, I am working as a career coach intern for Jewish Vocational Service Boston helping migrants and refugees develop English proficiency, professional development skills, and conduct job and education searches. I’ve worked multiple internships during my time at BU, so please reach out with questions regarding internships!

Even though I grew up only two hours outside of Boston, moving away to college was certainly a challenge! I put a lot of pressure on myself to try to adjust as quickly as possible, but I found that by slowly meeting new people, exploring campus, and connecting with classmates, my perfect community was right at my fingertips. The people I’ve met here have broadened my perspectives and have helped me connect with students of diverse backgrounds. BU and Kilachand have been the perfect fit for me, and I can’t wait for my next three years here!
