The Executive Director of the Yleana Leadership Foundation, Alyssa, is reaching out to you today in an effort to recruit students for their summer opportunity, the Yleana Leadership Academy – which seeks to decrease the achievement gap with low-SES students from urban areas (Baltimore, Boston, North Shore, NYC, and Philadelphia) through SAT score increase.  Over 50% of their kids are first-gen and over 95% of their kids each year are of color.

For our teachers, who are college students and recent college grads, this is way more than a summer job – it’s a chance to meet a child who will touch their life and way of thinking forever.  Yleana teachers who reflect back on their experiences say things like “When I look back on the different choices I could have made and possibilities I could have explored over the past few years, there’s one thing that always stays constant – Yleana.”  It’s an opportunity they return to over multiple years, rising in the ranks with educational progress and experience.I’m sure you know better than I the positive effects of students of color having predominantly teachers of color in the classroom; we want to recruit as many teachers of color as possible, and thought perhaps you would be able to pass our message along to students of color (as well as those who you think might be a good fit for our position) who are looking for a summer opportunity which is meaningful and service-oriented, as well as incredibly action-packed, fast-moving and a conflation of intense academics and fun.

Excitingly, this opportunity also pays!  Students get room and board for the duration of the summer as well as receiving a stipend between $2000-3500 (depending on experience and year in school) for the two-month commitment – fromJune 17 – August 14, 2017, as well as the opportunity to continue working through the end of August at one of our Follow-up Programs at $28.50/hr.
