COVID-19 in Latin America: A conversation with Rene Soria-Saucedo
This is the fifth in a series of interviews conducted by Boston University School of Public Health students Alejandro Alvarez and Juliana Barounis as part of their practicum requirement for the MPH. The goal of their project, which is being supported logistically by the Center for Latin American Studies as part of a larger look at COVID-19 in Latin America, is to explore the current pandemic from a variety of angles through conversations with healthcare and public health professionals throughout Latin America.
Alejandro Alvarez is a current MPH candidate striving to attain certificates in Epidemiology & Biostatistics as well as Global Health. He aspires to use knowledge and experience attained at BUSPH to work internationally and help increase access to health resources in underserved and vulnerable populations across the Americas.
Juliana Barounis is a current MPH candidate at BUSPH concentrating in Health, Policy, and Law and Global Health. Her background is in Psychology and Hispanic Studies, and her interests are in patient-doctor relationships, access and appropriate quality care, and oral and dental health care.
In this interview, Alejandro and Juliana speak with Rene Soria-Saucedo, a health specialist for the Bolivarian Agency for Nuclear Energy (ABEN). Soria-Saucedo received an MPH from the Boston University School of Public Health in 2014. Prior to to relocating to Bolivia in 2018, he worked as a researcher and assistant professor of pharmaceutical outcomes and policy at the University of Florida’s College of Pharmacy.
