Undergraduate Student Research Grants on Latin America 2017-2018
The Latin American Studies Program at Boston University is pleased to announce this year’s competition for funding to sponsor undergraduate research on Latin America. Projects on Latinos in the US will also be considered. In particular, this initiative is aimed at students completing Work for Distinction or other significant research projects for academic credit. The funds can be used for travel or other research expenses between November 2017 and June 2018. The competition is open to Latin American Studies (LAS) majors, minors, and other students at CAS, CFA, SPH or other schools at BU conducting research on Latin America

Applications should arrive by November 30, 2017
Applications should include the following:
• A letter of application
• A resume or curriculum vitae
• A project proposal of approximately two pages (one-half spaced) (plus any supporting documentation) in which you set out the nature of the project, the specific research to be funded by the grant, a concrete, specific research plan, and an itemized, documented budget for the research. (Having a well thought out, detailed plan of research will improve your chances of success.)
• Evidence that you are also seeking other avenues of funding (such as UROP or outside sources)
• A letter of recommendation from a LAS faculty member
A small number of awards may be made, up to $500 per student, according to the strength of the proposal, the costs of the project, and your overall qualifications. We highly recommend that all applicants for the LASP competition for funding apply to BU’s UROP [www.bu.edu/urop/], which funds undergraduate research–for co-financing, to get sufficient funds for field research.
THE APPLICATION DEADLINE IS NOVEMBER 30, 2017. A LASP review committee will notify you of its decisions by December 15, 2017.
