McCarthy, founder and CEO of the research advisory firms Caracas Wire LLC and Ceibo Growth Strategies, and Carlos Blanco, Visiting Researcher at the Center for Latin American Studies. This event is presented in collaboration with the Pardee Graduate Council and hosted by PGC President Maria Santarelli together with Amb. Paul Hare, who will moderate the conversation.

Speakers Bios:

Michael M. McCarthy is a recognized expert on Latin American politics and society and US foreign policy with well over a decade of experience working in Washington, D.C. and Caracas. He is the founder and CEO of the research advisory firms Caracas Wire LLC and Ceibo Growth Strategies, which focus on Venezuela and Argentina, respectively. He is also Adjunct Professor at George Washington University’s Elliott School for International Affairs and Research Fellow at American University’s Center for Latino & Latin American Studies. He has a PhD in Political Science from Johns Hopkins University and a BA in Political Science and History from Bates College.

Carlos Blanco is a Visiting Researcher at the Center for Latin American Studies. An international consultant, he has worked  for the Inter-American Development Bank, the European Union, the Ministry of Public Administration / Dominican Republic (MAP), Corporación Andina de Fomento (CAF), and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). He has taught classes on Latin America foreign policy and the US at Boston University and before that, he held ministerial positions with the government of Venezuela. He holds a PhD in Economics from Universidad Central de Venezuela.
