Violence and Society Seminar: Political Responses from Latin America
- Starts4:00 pm on Tuesday, October 15, 2024
- Ends5:30 pm on Tuesday, October 15, 2024
Over the past few decades, criminal and state violence have become a defining feature of everyday life and politics in Latin America. This panel brings together political scientists and sociologists working on a wide range of political responses to violence in the region. Why do some citizens pursue civic engagement after exposure to violence and not others? How is the left approaching insecurity, policing, and crime in Latin America? How is urban violence shaping urban governance in the region?
Join the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future for a panel discussion featuring Rebecca Bell-Martin (ITESM, Mexico), Rebecca Hanson (University of Florida, Harvard-DRCLAS), and Markus-Michael Müller (Roskilde University). The panel will be moderated by Ana Villarreal.
This event is the first of a new Violence and Society Seminar seeking to foster interdisciplinary dialogues among scholars working on violence.
