BU School of Law Is #22 in U.S. News & World Report Rankings

Boston University School of Law is proud to be recognized as #22 (tied) in the U.S. News and World Report 2025 Best Law Schools ranking, a two-spot increase from the previous year. Factors such as a 98.4% rate of “full-credit” employment 10 months after graduation–the seventh best performance in the country this year– and a 98.4% ultimate Bar Passage rate for the 2021 graduating class contributed to the ranking increase.

“BU Law has long been home to exceptional students, stellar faculty, first-rate scholarship, and excellent programs, particularly in areas like health law and intellectual property,” Dean Angela Onwuachi-Willig told BU Today. “We are proud to see the many strengths of our faculty, our students, our librarians, our staff—our entire community—get recognized.”

The law school excelled in several U.S. News Specialty rankings, with its Health Law program advancing its position from #3 to #2 in the country. Additionally, BU Law ranked #20 among schools with the most graduates employed at Big Law firms – a category introduced this year. The Legal Writing program experienced a significant increase from #74 to #34. “I am particularly proud to see our legal writing/lawyering skills program get recognized with its jaw-dropping jump,” says Dean Onwuachi-Willig.

In the Best Clinical Training Law Programs specialty ranking, the BU Law clinical programs moved up seven spots, rising from #38 to #31. Similarly, BU Law moved up two places in the Best Constitutional Law Programs and is tied for #23. The Intellectual Property program continues to be highly ranked at #12, while the Tax program remains competitive at #15.

U.S. News methodology has largely remained consistent with that of 2024, meaning that the shifts in rankings this year are primarily due to changes in how schools’ data compare with that of other schools, rather than a change in evaluation criteria. U.S. News assesses each school’s overall rank based on ten distinct ranking factors, with employment rates and bar passage rates being the most heavily weighted.
