Committee and Process
The Classroom Climate Committee (CCC), charged with reviewing reports filed by students, is composed of the Dean, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, the Associate Dean for Academic Engagement, the Associate Dean of Clinical and Experiential Programs, and the Associate Dean for Equity, Justice and Engagement (Chair).
The review process involves the following steps:
- When a form (“report“) is received, the Chair transmits the report to the CCC and appoints a committee member who will lead the review.
- If a CCC member is the subject of the report, then the member will recuse themselves from the review of this report.
- The Chair and/or the CCC member leading the review contacts the student who filed the report and meet with the student to:
- Review the student’s options to consult confidential resources and to seek support from the Deputy Title IX Coordinator and Equal Opportunity Office, which may investigate and/or provide supportive measures.
- Review the process and explain how the CCC works and how other options on campus might overlap or offer different pathways for response.
- If the student chooses to proceed, discuss the report. This may include determining if there is additional information relevant to the report.
- If the student has determined that they wish to proceed, the CCC meets to discuss the report and the proposed response (if any). Possible responses include: the professor choosing to address directly the class about the concerns raised; the professor and/or students involved or affected by the episode engaging in a learning facilitation process with a facilitator from the Office of the Associate Provost for Diversity & Inclusion; a mediation session with a professional mediator from the same office.
- The Chair and the CCC member leading the review meet with the professor or student involved in the reported episodes.
- The Chair or CCC member leading the review also provides the student with periodic updates about the progress of the review process.
- Once the review of the report is determined to be closed, the Chair and the CCC member leading the review will meet with the reporting student and provide a summary of the discussion relevant to the report.
- If the student believes the matter is not resolved, or at any point in the process, the student may elect to pursue one of the other reporting processes made available by the University, including:
