Classroom support from 8 am – 9 pm
Law AMS provides all School of Law audiovisual and media services, including but not limited to lecture recording, recording distribution, lecture and event setup and support, digital signage, video conferencing, and teleconferencing. We also administer all classroom and courtroom technology and jointly administer Law’s computer labs along with IS&T.
For all event and recording requests, please email us at lawav@bu.edu. Please submit any requests at least one business day in advance; we cannot guarantee recordings or support for same day requests.
To reserve a classroom or other space, please follow the directions listed in the Room Reservation Procedure.
Please ensure emails from lawav@bu.edu and bu@service-now.com are not going to your junk or spam folder.
Classrooms
School of Law classrooms are fully set up for complete lecture capture, including built-in HD cameras and teaching tables equipped with touchscreen monitors and computer audio/video capture hardware. They feature built-in projectors and projection screens, lapel microphones, a podium microphone, and ceiling microphones for full capture of both the lecturer and the students’ questions and responses. Law AMS also has online video conferencing hardware, connections for laptops, and assisted listening devices in most classrooms. The classroom PCs and any computers plugged into the room system are recorded when the system is engaged, including when the projector is muted. Please note that accessing personal emails/accounts on our computers may show on a recording if the system is on.
Scheduling Recordings
Please send in all recording requests at least one business day in advance. We cannot guarantee that a recording will be created for requests that are not sent within that window. Law AMS is capable of recording all classrooms in the Law building, using the classrooms’ built-in cameras. For lecture and classroom recordings, Law AMS can record both the room itself and the program audio/video (which plays from the computer). When requesting for classes to be recorded, please include as much of the following information as possible:
- Date, time, room number
- Course and section number (JD701 A1, TX901 OL, etc.) or event name
- Distribution method (e.g. post to Blackboard; Echo360) & BU email(s) if sharing with students
- Whether you’ll need any additional media support (Zoom meeting setup, PowerPoint setup, etc.)
For members of the BU School of Law faculty and staff:
- Please contact us directly at lawav@bu.edu with the details of the event you’d like recorded (see “Law Department Reservations” if the event is in Barristers or Charles River Room).
For all others, including students:
- If you’d like a lecture or group of lectures recorded, please contact your professor or their department’s senior program coordinator and ask them to request a recording.
- If you’ve received a disability accommodation and haven’t been directed to speak with the Registrar or Student Affairs Office, please contact them as soon as possible so your needs for the semester can be met.
Accessing Recordings
For access to class recordings, please email
lawav@bu.edu and include:
- Date, time, room number
- Course and section number (JD701 A1, TX901 OL, etc.)
- Professor’s name
Please note AMS may ask students for the professor’s written permission depending on their distribution policy.
Recordings are distributed two ways:
Most commonly, access will be granted on echo360.org. Log in with your BU username and Kerberos password in order to view recordings. Use the tabs on the top of the page to switch between “Courses” where you’ve received permission to view all recordings for a course, and “Library” for individual recordings. We recommend using the Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox browsers. Echo360 is not guaranteed to work with Internet Explorer. Please note Law AMS does not support Echo360 tablet/mobile applications.
Professors and lecturers may elect to have recordings posted to their course’s Blackboard Learn page. Recordings will show up in the course’s left navigation menu under “Recorded Lectures.” Please note that the existence of a Recorded Lectures area does not guarantee that your professor will provide access to any or all recordings. Please check with them or with Law AMS for confirmation.
Events
Please make sure to reserve a room with the School of Law Registrar and send in support requests to lawav@bu.edu at least two days in advance. For student events, contact Student Affairs (
studaff@bu.edu). Law AMS provides media services for School of Law events occurring in the Sumner M. Redstone Building and in the Law Tower during regular business and class hours. Please contact us if you’ll be using the classroom computer or projection equipment, and you’d like assistance or training in setting up the room and/or your equipment. If the event will take place in Barristers or the Charles River Room, please review the documents below:
For non-Law-sponsored events and for weekend events, Law AMS may provide media services for a fee. If your event falls into one of those categories, please contact us as soon as possible for more information.
Training
To schedule a training session on using the classroom technology, please send us an email with an approximate number of people and your availability, and we will schedule a session. Training sessions generally take between twenty and thirty minutes. The following PDFs are also attached to every teaching table, and serve as a quick guide for using the classroom equipment:
Button Panel – Seminar Room,
Touch Panel – Dual Screen and
Touch Panel – Room Controls.
Please feel free to contact us by phone 617-353-3162 or by email lawav@bu.edu for any other concerns that we have not listed here, including notifications of dead batteries or damaged/broken equipment, and questions or concerns about the law building’s digital signage.
