Guidelines and Resources

The Marketing and Communications team is excited to support your efforts to bring visibility to your programs, promote your upcoming events, facilitate opportunities with the media, and tell the stories of the incredible work of our students, faculty, and staff. Below, you will find a collection of essential guidelines and resources, which we hope you will find a useful tool. If you have questions, require further guidance, or need assistance with a specific project, please reach out to us at lawcomm@bu.edu or 617-353-5323.

Event Planning

Visit our step-by-step event planning guide and how-to guide for a start-to-finish resource when planning your next event. If you have questions, please email lawevent@bu.edu, and we will be happy to assist you. Students, student organizations, and journals should refer to this page for guidance and the relevant links.

Internal Planning Calendar

In order to minimize conflicts, please add tentative or confirmed internal events to the internal planning calendar. Please note that this calendar is for internal planning purposes only. We ask that each department have a designated office contact responsible for adding and updating their events. Instructions for adding items to the Internal Calendar can be requested by emailing lawevent@bu.edu.

Event Space Reservations

We are able to make reservations for Barristers Hall, the Atrium, the Law Café/McCausland Commons, the Charles River Room, the Alumni Board Room, the Faculty Lounge, and conference room 1502. To reserve a room in the law tower, please email lawres@bu.edu with the location, date, and time you are looking for. It is also helpful to include a little bit of information about the event for context in case there is something similar going on elsewhere in the law school at the same time. If the room is available, we will reserve it and confirm with you. Before your event, please submit the room reservation form, room diagram, and FSR if applicable (a room diagram/FSR is not needed for the Alumni Board Room or 1502 conference room since the setup cannot be changed).

Classroom Reservations

Reservations for law school classrooms are managed through lawreg@bu.edu during the year and lawres@bu.edu in the summer.

Law Auditorium Reservations

Reservations for the Law Auditorium can be made by contacting the University Registrar.

For room-reservation policies, procedures, and further details, please visit this page. If you have any questions about the room-reservation process, please email lawres@bu.edu.

Brand Guidelines

To request a logo or swag, or if you need branding guidance, please email lawcomm@bu.edu, and we will be happy to assist you. To learn more about the law school’s brand standards and positioning, please see our Rules Of Law brand guide.

Digital Screens

To post a flyer on the digital screens throughout the building, please email  lawcomm@bu.edu with your attachment and requested posting dates. The dimensions of the screens are 1920x1080p, and .jpg or .png are acceptable formats. Slides run for 15 seconds each, so we recommend limiting text as much as possible and making your information easily distinguishable and accessible. Certain screens cut off the edges of the flyers, so please allow space around your content.

If you need assistance with creating a slide for the screens, email your request to lawcomm@bu.edu with the content you would like featured, including all relevant event information, imagery, and links. Slides will be created using our standard office template; if you would like something more specific, please include direction in your request and allow ample time for the slide to be completed.

Print Materials Request

For print material projects, such as event programs, one-page flyers, posters, invitations, save-the-dates, and brochures, please send requests to lawcomm@bu.edu.

Editorial Style Guide

Boston University follows the Chicago Manual of Style in all of its communications. The University created an editorial style guide that addresses many frequently asked questions and includes detailed information on capitalization, punctuation, hyphenation, abbreviation, and spelling. A guide created by the law school further elaborates on the University’s editorial style guide with information that is specifically helpful to the law school community.
