Student Loans

BU Law students may elect to use federal or private educational loans to help finance their educational expenses. You are not required to borrow federal loans or private educational loans from specific lenders. You are free to borrow the loan product that will best meet your needs. We encourage you to review the loan terms carefully, to borrow no more than is necessary, and to minimize your expenses whenever possible.

Federal Direct Loans

Federal Direct Loans are federally supported loans with flexible repayment options. The federal loans available to graduate students are not based on financial need. These loans can be used to pay tuition, fees, and living expenses

Private Loans

Private educational loans are credit-based. With most lenders, your credit score will determine the interest rate you receive. Pay close attention to the loan terms such as the interest rate, fees, and repayment options.

International students may be able to borrow a private educational loan. Generally, the best options will require you to have a cosigner who is a US citizen or permanent resident. However, there are a few lenders that will lend to international students without a cosigner.
