Director, Non-JD Professional Development
Biography
Claire Lee is the Director of Non-JD Professional Development at Boston University School of Law. In this role, Claire leads and oversees all professional and career development services for graduate students enrolled in non-JD programs, including LLM in American Law, Intellectual Property & Information Law, Banking & Financial Law, and Taxation programs. She also provides comprehensive advising and resources to LLM students and alumni, with specialized expertise in US bar exam eligibility requirements for foreign-trained lawyers and those interested in transferring to the JD program.
With over a decade of experience in the legal profession as a practicing lawyer and a law school administrator, Claire has counseled and mentored hundreds of law students and new attorneys starting out in their careers. Before joining BU Law, Claire managed the professional development and cooperative legal education program for LLM students at Northeastern University School of Law. There, she advised international students, including LLM students, on careers in all legal-employment sectors, as well as JD students seeking judicial clerkships. Prior to her years in academia, Claire worked in private practice with law firms specializing in civil rights, employment law, and business immigration law. As a managing attorney at a business immigration law firm, she represented foreign students, lawyers, athletes, artists, physicians, and other highly skilled professionals through the employment-based visa and immigration process. Additionally, she counseled corporate clients on a variety of employment-based immigration law matters, including temporary and permanent visa sponsorship options for their employees and immigration compliance.
Claire currently serves as a Co-chair of the International and Advanced Degree Advising and Recruiting Section of NALP, the National Association for Law Placement, and has spoken at a national conference on topics related to best practices in advising, recruiting, and retaining international talents. She received her BA in Political Science from the University of Washington and her JD from the University of Akron School of Law. She is admitted to the Washington Bar and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington and is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. She speaks fluent Korean and enjoys learning about new cultures around the world.
