Bar Exam Motivational Music
Boston University School of Law’s faculty and staff share their favorite inspirational songs and offer words of encouragement to graduates preparing for the bar exam.
For most students, walking across the graduation stage marks the culmination of their degree, the final hurdle before beginning their long-sought careers. For many law students, however, that final hurdle is the bar exam.
Whether you are sitting for the bar in Massachusetts, New York, California, or anywhere in between, the faculty and staff at BU Law are cheering you on and have shared some songs and helpful notes as motivation while you continue to prepare for the exam. Listen to the music that inspires them, moves them, and brings about joy when they need it most.
“Life (Is What You Make of It)” by Frighty & Colonel Mite
“I, and every faculty and staff member at the School of Law, are so proud of you! Please know that you have all the tools you need to prepare successfully for and pass the bar examination! Read all of the bar review outlines. Make sure to complete all of your practice problems and essays. Take care of yourselves. Study hard, and make sure to get some rest and sleep! It’s your time to shine, and we are all rooting for you! Sending you lots of luck and love!”
– Angela Onwuachi-Willig, Dean and Ryan Roth Gallo professor of law
“You’re So Cool” by Hans Zimmer
“Of course the bar is not ‘just another test,’ but your entire life has been a series of tests you’ve had to pass to get to this point. Keep in mind all the challenges you’ve overcome, not just the academic and professional, but the personal, whether you took them on voluntarily or whether life put them in front of you. You didn’t get here by accident. You’re smart, you’re talented, and you know it, and this outstanding institution—one the experts deemed you worthy of attending—has helped prepare you for this next challenge in countless ways. We’re proud of you. We believe in you. Go do what you’ve always done.”
– Brian Wilson (’96), lecturer and clinical instructor
“Fly” by Nicki Minaj and Rihanna
“It’s a marathon, not a sprint! Pace yourselves with bar studying, building your knowledge/memory so that you peak right at the bar exam date. You got this!!!”
– Kimberly Wong, assistant director, career development: public sector
“Natural Mystic” by Bob Marley and The Wailers
“Study hard; study broad. You’ve got this!”
– Jade Brown, clinical associate professor of law
“Fight Song” by Rachel Platten
“You’ve got this!!! Just take it one day at a time and do everything your bar prep course tells you to do! I am a runner and got a stress fracture in my foot right before bar prep started so I had to spend the entire summer studying for the bar in a walking boot unable to run. This song got me through that really difficult time, and I felt so good belting it out after the bar when I could run again!”
– Larissa Brewster, director for graduate career advising and outcomes
“The Touch” by Stan Bush
“Take a deep breath then follow through. We’re so proud of you. You’ve got this!”
– Woodrow Hartzog, professor of law
“I Gotta Feeling” by Black Eyed Peas
“Stay focused and give it all you got.”
– Rebecca Pendleton, lecturer and faculty director of the two-year LLM
