Micheal Scott (aka Regional Manager) runs the Scranton branch. He is often considered a "goofy" boss by the employees of Dunder Mifflin. He is often the butt of everybodies jokes. Michael constantly tries to intermix his work life with his social life by inviting employees of Dunder Mifflin to come over house or get coffee. He has a strong hate for Toby in HR and often "bullies" him. Michael likes to be the center of attention and can be very selfish. Michael is forced to share his "throne" of Regional Manager when Jim becomes a co-manager. It is Michaels dream to have children of his own. He is in an on and off relashionship with Jan Levenson (his former boss) until they break up for good and Michael meets Holly. Later, in season 7 Michael moves to Colorado so he can live with Holly leaving the office behind to multiple new regional managers.
Dwight K. Shrute (a salesman) is seen in the series as Michaels right hand man. He would do anything for Michael. Michael does not appreciate Dwight as much as he should. Dwights nemisis is Jim Halpert. He always trys to one up gym. For, instance Jim throws a snowball at Dwight and then Dwight retaliates by terrorizing Jim. He builds snowmen in the parking lot then comes out of one and bombards Jim with snowballs. Dwight owns a beet farm and bed and breakfast with his brother Moes. Dwight could be described as a self centered nerd. It is always Dwight's fream to become the Regional Manager. Under Michaels reign he has the title of "Asistant to the Regional Manager". Much to Dwights delight this title is soon changed to "Assistant Regional Manager". Dwight becomes a temporary Regional Manager after Michael leaves. This title is taken away when he accidently shoots his gun in the office. Dwight is in love with Angela who he later marries in the last episode.
Jim Halpert (a salesman at Dunder Mifflin) is often bored of his job. He is underworked and is vey creative. He has a charming personality. He likes Pam, an engaged women who he later marries and has two kids with. He originally transfers branches because he wants to get away from pam. As described earlier Jim is enemies with Dwight Shrute. He also likes to joke around.
Pam Beesly is the receptionest aeound the office (later turned salesman). She is originally engaged to Roy (for 3 years) and then she marries Jim. Pam is known as "the office hottie". She dreams of becoming an artist and even goes to school for it at Pratt Institute. Jim is far more accepting of her aspirations than Roy was. Pam has two kids; CeCe and Phillip. She starts as a meek and passive character and becomes an assirtive one.
Toby Flenderson is the human resources representative for the Scranton branch of paper distributor Dunder Mifflin/Sabre. Mild-mannered to the point of being physically incapable to voice his opinions or assert himself, Toby can be somewhat mournful about his life choices (he fell into the field of Human Resources after leaving his training at seminary in order to pursue the woman he'd later marry and painfully divorce). He likes his colleagues, although he is sometimes exasperated by the excessively chatty Kelly Kapoor. He also has a long-standing crush on Pam Halpert, which he almost reveals at the end of Season 4 when he resigns from his position to move to Costa Rica. Toby was intensely despised by branch manager Michael Scott, largely because Michael had no authority over him as Toby reported to corporate headquarters, and because Toby frequently tried to dissuade Michael from many of his ill-conceived and impulsive ideas. Michael sums up his feelings for Toby in the episode "Casino Night," asking, "Why are you the way that you are? Honestly every time I try to do something fun or exciting, you make it not that way. I hate so much about the things that you choose to be." For Toby's going away party in "Goodbye Toby," Michael gives him as a gift a rock with a note attached reading "Suck on This!" Shortly after arriving in Costa Rica, Toby suffers a zip-line accident and midway through season 5, he returns to his old job at Dunder Mifflin, much to Michael's fury.
