The Patriots were founded in 1960 and joined the NFL in 1970.
They were originally called the Boston Patriots.
The Patriots are a very succesful team with multiple titles and championships.
They have an ongoing rivalry with the New York Jets. They are geographically the closest team to the Patriots. Being in the same division they have been playing the Patriots at least two teams every season. Another reason for the rivalry is that Bill Belichick was the Jets Coach for a day and he didn't like it there so the Patriots gave mulitple draft picks to the Jets for Belichick. He has been a vital part of the team and probably one of the reasons for the success of the Patriots. Also another reason is Eric Mangini who was the former assistant head coach of the Patriots. He left and went to the Jets. There he accused the Patriots of Spygate.
Under head coach Bill Belichick, the Patriots have employed specific on-field and off-field strategies. On the field, the Patriots have typically utilized an "Erhardt–Perkins" offense and a "Fairbanks–Bullough" 3–4 defense, referred to commonly as a two-gap 3–4 defensive system.
The Patriots have always had a rigourous work schedule under Bill Belichick with his motto "No Days off".
