December 4, 1482 was the day Haiti was found. Discovered by Spanish explorer Christopher Columbus. I know you're probably thinking "Whhhhaaatttt! He found Haiti before America!(┛◉Д◉)┛彡┻━┻" If you are, then you are correct because Haiti was founded about 10 years before America was. Even though Haiti was discovered and first recorded in the books by Christopher, doesn't mean it didnt exist to others already. When Christopher and his men arrived, a group of Caribbean Indians and Arawak inhabitied what Christopher called "La Isla Española". (Later "latinized" to Hispanola) The Carribeans called their land Ayiti, and split their land into 5 countries. Soon after Columbus arrived they slowly expanded their grounds, renaming everything, inforcing slavery, bringing disease, and sending the indigenous tribe to near extinction. After more then 50 years (around 1697) in La Isla Española, the Spainards gave up 1/3 of their land to the French. Under French colonial rule many slaves arrived from africa So, Haiti was populated by remains of Indigenous culture, French, African and Spanish. (This plays a big part in Haiti's food. If you haven't read about it click Here). After years, most habitants in Haiti spoke French Creole, a mix of French, Spanish, African and Native American dialect. To speed the boring stuff up, let me get to the end. After years of slave rebellion, the Haitians slaves won their independance on January 1, 1804. Yes, on New Years Day. This is soooo big in the books because Haiti was the first Black Country to gain its independance, ever. That causes for a celebration!〜( ̄▽ ̄〜)(〜 ̄▽ ̄)〜 (Hehehehe). So, they did celebrate. They made a New Years/Independance Day Celebration custom type thingy. That, you can read about Here. So, yeah. Haiti's story is cool ಠ◡ಠ. Lol, you thought I was done. Haiti is sooo pretty and most people actually don't know that. After Haiti's earthquake some people only knew it for being ugly. So im here to prove them wrong.
