Spend the morning exploring the world of light and optics in our brand new Photonics Education Laboratory.

Professors Bennett Goldberg and Michael Ruane of the Physics and Electrical Engineering Departments will guide you through an introductory discussion and two exciting hands-on workshops that will include:

IMAGING:

• Use digital cameras, Linux workstations and MATLAB software.
• Capture images, modify them and reveal their "hidden worlds."
• Programming experience not needed

WAVE/PARTICLE DUALITY:

• You will build a Michelson-Morley Inteferometer with lasers, beam splitters, and mirrors on an optical table and see for yourself the wave nature of light.
• You will use one of the most sensitive photon (bundle of light) detectors on earth to measure how many photons are in a completely darkened room.
