Apply to be a Student Staff Member

The LGBTQIA+ Student Resource Center Interns are responsible for creating a hospitable environment for LGBTQIA+ Student Resource Center guests, as well as providing administrative support to LGBTQIA+ Student Resource Center full-time staff. Operations Assistants’ duties include, but are not limited to, greeting guests, logging visitor data, answering phones, answering questions about the event reservation system and supporting programming and administrative needs. LGBTQIA+ Student Resource Center Student Staff must also be proactive, detail-oriented and comfortable conversing with peers.

❗️Applicants must choose to be considered for one of three tracks: Marketing & Communications (MarComm), Programming, or General. 

Student employees who are interested in pursuing the programming track will work between one and two shifts exclusively between the hours of 4pm and 8pm. They will be responsible for hosting programming that they are interested in weekly. These will be in the place of Arts & Crafts Night and Game Night. They can continue to be those events, or they can be reimagined! We will work with the students on this track to develop these programs.  

Student employees who pursue the marketing & communications track will work on Instagram and newsletter marketing efforts, create graphics through Canva, and engage with other BU accounts. They can work any shift but the 12-4pm and 2-6pm shifts would be preferred. 

Student employees who pursue the general track will focus on administratively supporting the Center’s needs and can work any shift. 

Time commitment: Minimum of 8 hours/week. 

Qualifications:

    • Must be a full-time undergraduate student at Boston University.
    • Must have completed at least one semester of academic study at Boston University.
    • Must have federal work-study. 
    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse students, staff, faculty, and community members. 
    • Must have the ability to anticipate the needs of students and staff. 
    • Must have the ability to utilize resources and identify solutions. 
    • Have proven experience working cooperatively as part of a team. 
    • Previous customer services experience, with demonstrated interest in community building at BU around LGBTQIA+ issues. 

      Position expectations:

      • Greet all visitors.
      • Give Center tours.
      • Direct visitors to appropriate resources.
      • Provide primary phone reception.
      • Maintain record of visitor traffic and activity.
      • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly space maintenance.
      • Answer questions about event reservation requests.
      • Staff/support Signature Events and events that are hosted in the Center.
      • Support LGBTQIA+ Student Resource Center professional staff as necessary.
      • Open and/or close the Resource Center.
