Transportation
Los Angeles is a sprawling metropolis. The majority of students rent, buy or ship a car. It is possible to use public transportation (primarily buses) but it will likely double the length of your commute.
We have more information on our internal Blackboard page for students to review once it opens up.
RENTING A CAR
If you are interested in renting a car for your stay in Los Angeles, BU has a discount with Enterprise. There are other rental companies in Los Angeles and we encourage to research all options to find the one that best suits your needs. Enterprise will rent to students who are 18-20 years old if they have verifiable full-coverage auto insurance that transfers to the rental car. For details on the Enterprise Rental discount will be on the BULA Blackboard page specific for your semester.
AUTO INSURANCE
All students must be covered by auto insurance if they plan to operate a vehicle while in Los Angeles. This can be accomplished in several ways. Ultimately, you, the student, is responsible for understanding the insurance requirements and making sure you meet those standards. For details on Auto Insurance Requirements, click here.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
International students can use their international license to rent a car. They must be over 21 and they must present a readable copy of their international license (it is also a good idea to have an international driving permit in case the agent is unable to read the student’s license).
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

LA Metro has college/vocational TAP cards for current college students. It allows travel for $43 a month. There is an application you can mail in. It will take 20 days to receive the card. You will need a letter from BULA to get this. Email buinla@bu.edu to request a letter.
