Important Update on Dry Ice Shipments through FedEx

We wanted to share some important updates regarding dry ice shipments through FedEx to ensure a smooth process for future shipments.

Recently, a lab encountered an issue when a shipment was refused at the FedEx location at 700 Albany Street. In response to this, we reached out to FedEx for clarification. FedEx confirmed that their corporate policy prohibits FedEx-Kinkos locations and FedEx drop boxes from accepting shipments containing dry ice. It appears that the Albany Street location had been mistakenly accepting these shipments, contrary to FedEx policy.

To ship packages containing dry ice, FedEx advises using their South Boston location at 775 Summer Street, which is currently the only FedEx location in the immediate Boston area authorized to handle dry ice shipments. Alternatively, you may schedule a pickup for dry ice shipments by calling FedEx directly at 1-800-463-3339.

For your convenience, we’ve attached the guidelines from BU Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) for shipping Biological Materials, along with the FedEx Dangerous Goods Awareness Guide.

We hope this information helps streamline your shipping process in the future. Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
