Computing & Data Sciences
Taking Computing & Data Sciences to new heights.
Challenge
As the largest, and greenest, building on the Charles River Campus took shape, people knew something big was coming to BU. Our opportunity was to use that excitement for the center to build awareness for the University’s innovative, multidisciplinary approach to, and ongoing investment in, this emerging field.
Solution
In order to shout this commitment to data sciences from the rooftops, we leveraged all the expertise within Marketing & Communications to develop a cohesive, strategic, and branded suite of communications for the grand opening.
Our creative strategy began with a design system, using a “+” symbol, interlocking forms, and thought-provoking headlines, that echoes the building’s architecture and underlines how CDS is where access and collaboration intersect.
A marketing brochure, pop-up banners, invitations, PR and social media blasts, and full-page ads in the New York Times, Washington Post, and Boston Globe each spoke to the unexpected collaborations that represent BU’s approach to computing and data sciences. BU Today and The Brink featured articles about the building, its LEED-certified Platinum fossil-fuel-free infrastructure, and the program’s latest innovative research.
All told, the building’s grand opening served as a way to draw attention to BU’s ongoing commitment to the field of computing and data sciences. Our coverage of the event spoke to Boston University’s leadership and its sky-high ambitions for future innovation in the field.
