Undergraduate Awards and Grants

Each year CAS awards one College Prize in Mathematics and one College Prize in Statistics. Typically these are awarded to the graduating student in each area of specialty with the strongest academic record.

Our department awards several prizes each year to graduating students: the Mode Prize in Statistics, the Friedman Prize in Mathematics, and the Bruce Prize in Mathematics. These prizes were created in recognition of the fact that the studies of mathematics and statistics are human endeavors. Named for former faculty members, these are typically awarded to students who, in their pursuit of their own academic goals, have had a significant positive impact on the classes they have taken and the academic mission of the department.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics provides Departmental Travel Grants to a limited number of undergraduates each year to support travel to, and participation in, conferences and workshops. Students from historically excluded groups are strongly encouraged to apply for these funds.

The CAS Honors Research Travel Awards program funds grants of up to $1,000 for travel to conduct research by advanced undergraduates pursuing a BA with honors in any CAS major. These awards recognize outstanding student scholars and enable them to execute Senior Honors Projects that require travel in the course of research. 

Inclusion Catalyst Grants support creative, collaborative initiatives that generate learning and stimulate efforts to foster inclusive and equitable communities at Boston University. Recipients are awarded grants up to $2,000. All BU students, faculty, and staff are eligible to apply.
